Abstract :
Purpoe To highlight the four International Curricula of Ophthalmic Education developed by the Tak Force of the International Council of Ophthalmology, publihed in Kliniche Monatblätter für Augenheilkunde in November 2006. Deign A global perpective of developing educational curricula a tool to improve eye care. Method Review of the experience and concluion of the four international panel. Reult The Tak Force on Reident and pecialit Education developed a curriculum coniting of 15 topic in baic, tandard, and advanced level to provide flexibility of educational program of the ophthalmic pecialit in different location acro the world. The curricula were deigned to be an educational tool to timulate multiple level of training of the ophthalmic pecialit. The Tak Force on Ophthalmic Education of Medical tudent deigned a curriculum covering 11 topic and provide illutrative material for teacher and tudent. The Tak Force trongly advocate the ophthalmology curriculum to be part of the core program of general medical chool education. The Tak Force on Para-ophthalmic Viion pecialit Education developed a curriculum to highlight the importance of a team approach to eye care, coniting of ophthalmic pecialit and paraophthalmic peronnel to produce maximum efficiency. The Tak Force on Continuing Medical Education (CME) deigned a curriculum exploring the principle, element, categorie, and adminitration of CME activitie in a variety of topic. Concluion Thee curricula hifted the traditional apprentice ytem of education to a curriculum-baed training program in which goal, expectation, competencie, and technical training are defined to improve eye care worldwide.
