Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the effectivene of the gold weight trial procedure in predicting potoperative eyelid cloure after gold weight implantation urgery for facial paly.
Deign
Propective, interventional cae erie.
Method
Patient with facial paly undergoing gold weight implantation were enrolled propectively to undergo the tandard gold weight trial procedure. The criteria for ideal gold weight were defined before urgery a a minimum 50% reduction in lagophthalmo without induction of more than 2 mm ptoi during the trial procedure. The corrected weight (ideal gold weight + 0.2 g) wa implanted in the pretaral pace. The main outcome meaure wa reduction in lagophthalmo according to predefined criteria at ix week after urgery.
Reult
Thirty eye of 29 patient underwent gold weight implantation. The mean age at urgery wa 41.6 year, and the median predicted ideal gold weight wa 1.2 g. The mean preoperative lagophthalmo of 7 mm reduced to 2.3 mm at ix week after urgery. A defined by the ucce criteria, undercorrection wa noted in nine eye (30%) at ix week after urgery. A preoperative lagophthalmo of 8 mm or more wa noted in even (77.8%) of nine eye in the undercorrection group, compared with ix (28.6%) of 21 eye in the ucce group. ix of the nine failure required implant exchange.
Concluion
The ideal gold weight a etimated by the trial procedure (with 0.2 g correction factor) led to undercorrection in 30% cae. Undercorrection wa common (78%) in patient with preoperative lagophthalmo of more than 8 mm.
