Abstract
Purpoe
To ae the relationhip of retinal veel caliber with diabete and diabetic retinopathy (DR).
Deign
Population-baed cro-ectional analyi of the Blue Mountain Eye tudy, Autralia (n = 3,654, age ≥49 year).
Method
Diabete wa defined a phyician-diagnoed or fating blood glucoe ≥ 7.0 mmol/l; impaired fating glucoe a fating glucoe 6.1 to 6.9 mmol/l. DR wa graded from retinal photograph. Retinal veel caliber wa meaured from digitized image.
Reult
After controlling for age, gender, blood preure, and other factor, mean retinal venular caliber wa ignificantly wider in participant with moderate-evere nonproliferative DR (evere 262.7 μm; moderate 236.7 μm) than in nondiabetic participant (221.9 μm) or participant with diabete but no DR (221.2 μm) (P < .0001). Mean retinal arteriolar caliber wa ignificantly wider in participant with diabete (193.5 μm) than in nondiabetic participant (190.2 μm) (P < .01).
Concluion
Increaing everity of DR in peron with diabete i aociated with widening of retinal venular caliber
