Abstract :
Purpoe
To characterize the clinical feature and therapeutic outcome of Candida keratiti.
Deign
Retropective, obervational cae erie.
Method
We reviewed 26 patient treated for Candida keratiti, including two with recurrent keratiti and one with bilateral infection.
Reult
Of 29 keratiti epiode reulting from Candida albican (n = 20) or Candida parapiloi (n = 9), 16 (55%) complicated chronic ocular urface dieae, and nine (31%) followed previou keratoplaty. Only two were clinically upected to have keratomycoi at initial preentation, and 21 (72%) ued antibacterial therapy before corneal craping. Recontructive keratoplaty occurred more often in previouly grafted eye (P = .03). Viual outcome wa 20/60 or better in ix (100%) medically treated eye with good preenting viual acuity but in only five eye (24%) with wore initial viion (P = .002).
Concluion
Candida keratiti i an opportunitic infection of a compromied cornea that often i midiagnoed initially and, depite antifungal therapy, occaionally require corneal grafting.
