Abstract :
Purpoe To clarify the clinical characteritic of exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in Japanee patient. Deign Retropective, obervational, conecutive cae erie. Method Two hundred and eighty-nine patient with neovacular AMD were examined. Reult The author claified the patient into three ubtype of neovacular AMD: polypoidal choroidal vaculopathy (PCV), retinal angiomatou proliferation (RAP), and typical AMD. One hundred and fifty-eight patient (54.7%) were diagnoed with PCV and 102 patient (35.3%) with typical AMD. RAP wa oberved in 13 patient (4.5%). In 16 patient (5.5%), one eye had PCV and the other eye had typical AMD. Mot patient with PCV and typical AMD had unilateral dieae (81.6% and 94.1%, repectively) with a male preponderance (77.8% and 71.6%, repectively). Nine of 13 patient with RAP were female (69.2%). Patient with RAP were older (mean, 80.3 year for men and 75.3 year for women) than patient with other ubtype. erou and hemorrhagic pigment epithelial detachment developed in 69 patient (43.7%) with PCV, 22 patient (21.6%) with typical AMD, and nine patient (69.2%) with RAP. In the patient with unilateral dieae in each ubtype, large druen in the unaffected eye were een in 24.0% with PCV, 30.2% with typical AMD, and 77.8% with RAP. Concluion Neovacular AMD in Japanee patient ha different demographic feature compared with that in White patient. In Japanee patient, there i a preponderance of PCV, male gender, unilaterality, and abence of druen in the econd eye, with the exception of RAP.
