Abstract :
Purpoe
To report an aociation between uveiti and terile endophthalmiti after intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide injection.
Deign
Retropective cae erie.
Method
A retropective analyi of all patient receiving intravitreal triamcinolone injection at the Cole Eye Intitute from January 2006 through eptember 2006 wa carried out to evaluate for the occurrence of bacterial or terile endophthalmiti. Indication for treatment, ocular hitory, bet-corrected nellen viual acuity, and clinical examination finding were recorded from the clinical chart before injection and at lat follow-up.
Reult
A total of 310 eye received intravitreal triamcinolone injection for variou caue, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, vacular occluion, and cytoid macular edema (CME) reulting from uveiti. There were no cae of culture-poitive infectiou endophthalmiti. There were ix cae (1.9%) of terile endophthalmiti. Of thee ix cae, four had prior hitory of uveiti, wherea only 20 of the 310 cae had a prior hitory of uveiti. All ix patient ought treatment within three day of injection, and all recovered rapidly. Preenting viual acuity wa either counting finger or hand movement. Median bet-corrected viual acuity before injection wa 20/100+, wherea median final viual acuity wa 20/80−.
Concluion
Patient with a hitory of uveiti may be at increaed rik of experiencing terile endophthalmiti reulting from intravitreal triamcinolone injection.
