Abstract :
Purpoe To reinvetigate tear evaporation rate in jögren yndrome () and non-jögren (non-) dry eye patient with a recently reported ventilated chamber evaporimeter ytem. Deign Propective cae-control tudy. Method A ventilated chamber evaporimeter ytem wa ued to meaure tear evaporation rate. A DR-1 camera (Kowa, Nagoya, Japan) wa ued for tear lipid layer interference image acquiition. The Yokoi everity grading ytem wa ued for DR-1 image evaluation. Twenty-four aqueou tear deficiency (ATD) eye of 21 conecutive patient with were tudied ( ATD group). Twenty-one ATD eye of 12 non- patient (non- ATD group) were examined a control ubject. Reult Tear evaporation rate of the ATD group (5.9 ± 3.5 [10−7 g/cm2 per econd]) were ignificantly higher than thoe of the non- ATD group (2.9 ± 1.8 [10−7 g/cm2 per econd]; P = .0009). The everity grading of DR-1 tear interference image of the ATD group wa ignificantly higher (P = .03), along with ignificantly wore meibomian gland expreibility and vital taining core, compared with thoe of the non- ATD group. Concluion Tear evaporation rate were higher in eye of the ATD group compared with the non- ATD group. Tear evaporation aeed in conjunction with tear lipid layer finding and meibomian gland expreibility provide an increaed undertanding in the differential diagnoi of dry eye tate.
