Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the effect of a ingle intravitreal injection of triamcinolone (IVTA) on central macular thickne and viual acuity in eye with minimally claic exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Deign
Retropective, nonrandomized clinical interventional tudy.
Method
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and bet-corrected logarithm of the minimum angle of reolution viual acuity were performed at baeline and one month after treatment.
Reult
We identified 11 eye with foveal edema and minimally claic ubfoveal neovacularization treated with an IVTA. Foveal edema decreaed ignificantly from 401 ± 98 μm at baeline to 295 ± 141 μm (mean ± tandard deviation; P = .004) at one month. There wa, however, no ignificant change in viual acuity at one or three month after the intervention.
Concluion
Thi biological effect of IVTA doe not upport it clinical ue, yet it doe warrant further reearch to determine whether locally delivered corticoteroid may be ynergitic with other treatment. Reduction in foveal edema i not necearily aociated with improved viual function in exudative AMD.
