Purpoe
To report the outcome of early urgery for bilateral congenital cataract in eye with microcornea.
Deign
Interventional cae erie.
Method
We retropectively reviewed 22 eye of 11 patient with microcornea who underwent early urgery for bilateral congenital cataract. All patient underwent lenectomy and anterior vitrectomy via the limbal approach by 12 week of age. The corneal diameter at the time of urgery ranged from 7.0 to 9.0 mm. The mean age at the time of urgery wa 7.7 ± 3.3 week (range, two to 12 week); the follow-up period wa 115 ± 58 month (range, 40 to 199 month). Aphakic eye were corrected with pectacle or contact lene. Viual acuitie and the potoperative complication were evaluated periodically.
Reult
The morphologic type of cataract were nuclear (12 eye), complete (eight eye), and membranou (two eye). Other preoperative ocular abnormalitie included iri hypoplaia in 10 eye and peritent fetal vaculature in three eye. ytemic abnormalitie were found in four patient. Potoperative complication occurred in 11 eye (50%), including glaucoma (nine eye), exudative retinal detachment (two eye), rhegmatogenou retinal detachment, and econdary membrane formation, in one eye each. The binocular viual acuity wa 20/40 to 20/20 in ix patient (55%), 20/200 to 20/100 in two patient (18%), and 2/100 or wore in three patient (27%) who developed potoperative glaucoma.
Concluion
Depite microcornea, favorable viual outcome were achieved after early urgery in thi erie. However, adequate management of potoperative complication, epecially glaucoma, i required.
