Abstract :
Purpoe
To compare the clinical feature and antibiotic uceptibility of ocular methicillin-reitant taphylococcu aureu (MRA) and methicillin-enitive taphylococcu aureu (MA).
Deign
Cro-ectional tudy.
Method
The Proctor clinical laboratory databae wa reviewed to identify all ocular iolate of . aureu collected between July 1, 1998 and July 31, 2006.
Reult
Of 915 . aureu iolate, there were 88 MRA iolate in 41 different patient. The proportion MRA increaed from 4.1% in 1998 to 1999 to 16.7% in 2005 to 2006. A total of 78.0% of patient with MRA had blepharoconjunctiviti, 2.4% had celluliti, 2.4% had dacryocytiti, 14.6% had keratiti, and 2.4% had endophthalmiti. The diagnoe aociated with MA were not tatitically different. A total of 63.6% of MRA iolate were enitive to bacitracin, 100% to vancomycin, 14.8% to ciprofloxacin, 14.8% to erythromycin, 97.7% to ulfioxazole, and 93.2% to tetracycline.
Concluion
MRA ha become a more common ocular pathogen but, a with MA, caue mild dieae. MRA hould be treated with vancomycin.
