Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the management and outcome of patient undergoing par plana vitrectomy (PPV) for retained len material after cataract urgery; and to evaluate rik factor for poor viual outcome, retinal detachment, raied intraocular preure (IOP), and cytoid macular edema (CME).
Deign
Retropective interventional conecutive cae erie.
Method
etting: Intitutional and Clinical practice. tudy population: Patient with retained len material after cataract urgery who underwent vitrectomy at ydney Eye Hopital between July 1, 1998 and October 31, 2003. intervention: tandard three-port PPV/lenectomy. main outcome meaure: Final bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), retinal detachment, raied IOP, and CME.
Reult
A total of 223 eye of 223 patient were included, with a mean follow-up of 20.5 month after vitrectomy. Final BCVA wa 6/12 or better in 159 patient (71.3%). Retinal detachment occurred in 20 patient (9%), with 11 diagnoed before or during vitrectomy, and nine occurring after vitrectomy. Ten patient (5.0%) developed raied IOP and 42 (23.2%) developed CME. Poor final viual acuity wa aociated with retinal detachment (P = .0026), and with poor viual acuity at preentation (P = .030). There wa a ignificant aociation between retinal detachment and a long interval (>30 day) between cataract urgery and vitrectomy (P = .00047) and between retinal detachment and younger age (P = .0070).
Concluion
Viual acuity reult in thi tudy compared favorably with previouly publihed report. Although the overall rate of retinal detachment wa low, it wa ignificantly higher in thoe with a delayed interval between cataract urgery and vitrectomy, and wa ignificantly aociated with a poorer viual outcome.
