Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate corneal change and ocular aberration during an orthokeratology tet.
Deign
A propective, nonrandomized cohort tudy.
Method
Fourteen myopic patient (26 eye) underwent an orthokeratology fitting tet with the BE contact len (Ultraviion Pty, Ltd, Bribane, Autralia). Bet pectacle-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), uncorrected (Ultraviion Pty, Ltd, Bribane, Autralia) viual acuity (UCVA), ubjective cycloplegic refraction, biomicrocopy, corneal topography, optical pachymetry, and aberrometry were performed at baeline and one and eight night orthokeratology. The hort-term effect of orthokeratology uing corneal topography, tomography, and ocular aberration wa evaluated.
Reult
The mean pherical equivalent changed from −2.24 ± 0.98 diopter (D) at baeline to 0.15 ± 0.76 D after the eight night of len wear (P = .001). All patient had an UCVA of 20/30, 69.2% with 20/20. Change in central corneal pachymetry were not oberved. There wa a tatitically ignificant increae in the temporal corneal thickne from night one, without any difference between night one and eight (P > .001). A ignificant increae of higher-order root mean quare value wa oberved from baeline (0.42 ± 0.16 μm), night one (0.81 ± 0.24 μm), and night eight (1.04 ± 0.24 μm). Increae in coma (Z7+Z8) and pherical aberration (Z12) were oberved. Poitive horizontal (Z8) coma increaed in right eye, and negative horizontal (Z8) coma increaed in left eye (P < .001).
Concluion
Myopia reduction reulting from rapid central corneal flattening and improvement of UCVA occurred after orthokeratology. Higher-order aberration (HOA), particularly pherical aberration and coma, increaed ignificantly during the orthokeratology tet. An increae of temporal pachymetry and difference in coma direction induced between the eye may be related to the ubclinical len decentration temporally.
