Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate morphologic change occurring in the retrobulbar region after optic nerve heath decompreion (OND) in patient with idiopathic intracranial hypertenion uing magnetic reonance (MR) imaging.
Deign
Propective obervational tudy.
Method
Thi tudy included 26 eye of 17 patient (age range, nine to 57 year) with idiopathic intracranial hypertenion who underwent OND. The urgery wa performed through tranconjunctival medial orbitotomy and by a dural window exciion. After OND, the optic nerve were examined with MR imaging by mean of 3-dimenional “contructive interference in teady tate” (CI) equence.
Reult
After OND, papilledema reolved in all eye and viual function improved in all except one. Early potoperative MR imaging (two to eight week after urgery) demontrated a cyt-like fluid collection adjacent to the dural window ite in nine (75%) of 12 eye and a fibrou tiue formation in three eye (25%). Late potoperative MR imaging (ix to 15 month after urgery) demontrated a fibrou tiue formation at the decompreion ite in 25 eye (96%) and perioptic fluid collection in one eye (4%).
Concluion
In early potoperative period after OND, a fluid collection adjacent to the decompreion ite occur in mot eye; thi finding diappear in late period. Early potoperative MR finding upport the idea that OND function through the cerebropinal fluid (CF) filtration.
