The Effect of Laryngeal Mak Airway Inertion on Intraocular Preure Meaurement in Children Receiving General Anetheia Original Reearch Article

Purpoe To tudy change in intraocular preure (IOP) in children while under general anetheia before and after laryngeal mak airway (LMA) inertion. Deign Propective, comparative tudy. Method IOP wa meaured in children after induction and one minute after LMA inertion. Children younger than 16 year who were cheduled to undergo elective ophthalmic urgery while receiving a general anethetic were included. Children with a hitory of glaucoma or previou intraocular urgery were excluded. Data were collected on the age of the child, IOP, heart rate (HR), end tidal CO2, and blood preure (BP) before and after LMA inertion. Reult ixty-ix children with a mean age of 5.5 ± 3.6 year (range, four month to 16 year) were included in the tudy. The mean IOP wa 13.6 ± 3.9 mm Hg and 13.6 ± 3.6 mm Hg in right and left eye, repectively, before LMA inertion and 15.5 ± 3.8 mm Hg and 15.2 ± 3.8 mm Hg in right and left eye, repectively, after LMA inertion (P = .001). A decreae in BP wa ignificantly aociated with an increae in IOP (P = .008), and the interaction between the change in the BP, HR, and CO2 affected the change in IOP meaured after inertion of the LMA (P = .04). There wa no correlation between the age of the child and the change in IOP meaured after inertion of the LMA. Concluion In our tudy, a mall but ignificantly higher IOP wa found after LMA inertion than before. It i recommended that the meaurement of IOP in children receiving a general anethetic i carried out before the inertion of the LMA.
