Rik Factor for the Development of Cataract Requiring urgery in Uveiti Aociated with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthriti Original Reearch Article

Purpoe To identify the poible rik factor for the development of cataract requiring urgery in children with juvenile idiopathic arthriti (JIA)-aociated uveiti. Deign Retropective cohort tudy. Method Data of 53 children with JIA-aociated uveiti, of whom 27 had undergone cataract extraction (CE), were obtained. The main outcome meaure, the interval between the onet of uveiti and the firt CE (U–CE interval), wa examined in relation to clinical and ophthalmologic characteritic and treatment trategie before CE. Reult A horter U–CE interval wa found for children with poterior ynechia v thoe without poterior ynechia (hazard ratio [HR], 3.57; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.33 to 10.00). No ignificant difference wa found for children in whom the uveiti wa the firt manifetation of JIA v thoe in whom arthriti wa the firt manifetation of JIA (HR, 1.59; 95% CI, 0.63 to 4.00) and children treated with periocular corticoteroid injection v thoe not treated with periocular corticoteroid injection (HR, 3.23; 95% CI, 0.95 to 11.11). Children treated with methotrexate (MTX) had a longer U–CE interval than children not treated with MTX (HR, 0.29; 95% CI, 0.10 to 0.87). Concluion The rik factor for development of early cataract requiring urgery in children with JIA-aociated uveiti i the preence of poterior ynechia at the time of diagnoi of uveiti. However, early treatment with MTX i aociated with a mean delay in the development of cataract requiring urgery of 3.5 year.
