Abstract :
Purpoe A a firt tep in the development of a health-related quality of life (HRQOL) intrument, we conducted in-depth interview to identify the pecific concern of adult with trabimu. Deign Propective cro-ectional tudy. Method Thirty adult with trabimu, 17 with diplopia, and 13 without were recruited. Individual interview, uing 11 open-ended quetion, were audiotaped, trancribed, and trancript reviewed independently by three invetigator. Phrae regarding how trabimu affected everyday life were grouped into topic area and the frequency of each topic analyzed for ubject with and without diplopia. Reult A total of 1,508 phrae were extracted: 207 (14%) of 1,508 were excluded becaue they did not pertain to HRQOL. From the remaining 1,301 phrae, 48 topic area were apparent. For patient with diplopia, the mot frequently occurring topic were: nonpecific negative feeling (15/17; 88%) (“really hard”); general diability (15/17; 88%) (“affect everything”); and driving (14/17; 82%). In thoe without diplopia, the mot frequently mentioned topic were appearance to other (12/13; 92%) (“people notice my eye”) followed by problem with eye contact (10/13; 77%) and interperonal relationhip (10/13; 77%). Of the topic that were common to both group (n = 42), two of the mot frequent were driving and nonpecific negative feeling. Concluion Multiple individual interview revealed many topic that negatively affect quality of life in patient with trabimu. The frequency and type of concern confirm the importance of HRQOL aement a an important apect of trabimu management.
