Verteporfin Therapy of ubfoveal Occult Choroidal Neovacularization in AMD Uing Delayed Light Application: One-year Reult of the VALIO tudy

Purpoe To compare photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin (Viudyne; Novarti Pharma AG, Bael, witzerland) uing either tandard or delayed light application. Deign Phae II, multicenter, maked, randomized clinical trial. Method ixty patient with occult with no claic choroidal neovacularization (CNV) reulting from age-related macular degeneration were aigned randomly (1:1) to verteporfin infuion followed by light application either at 15 minute (tandard light) or 30 minute (delayed light) after the tart of the infuion. The aigned treatment wa repeated every three month if fluorecein leakage wa detected. Reult At month 12, patient lot a mean of 15.7 letter and 11.4 letter from baeline in the tandard and delayed light group, repectively (P = .38). Twelve (52%) of 23 patient in the tandard light group and 11 (42%) of 26 in the delayed light group lot at leat 15 letter of viual acuity (P = .57). Concluion There were no tatitically ignificant difference between verteporfin therapy uing the delayed light regimen of 30 minute or the tandard light regimen of 15 minute in eye with occult with no claic CNV.
