Abstract :
Purpoe To correlate macular thickne determined by optical coherence tomography (OCT) with light increment enitivity and viual acuity in patient with type 2 idiopathic macular telangiectaia (IMT). Deign Propective, cro-ectional tudy. Method Fifty-one eye of 30 patient with type 2 IMT were invetigated. Functional aement included bet-corrected viual acuity and fundu-related microperimetry (MP1; Nidek Technologie, Padova, Italy). Retinal thickne wa analyzed quantitatively by OCT3 (Carl Zei Meditec, Jena, Germany). The main outcome meaure wa the correlation of light enitivity and viual acuity with retinal thickne. Reult Mean central retinal thickne wa reduced compared with that of normal eye. There wa no ignificant correlation between central foveal thickne and foveal light enitivity or viual acuity, repectively. Alo, there wa no ignificant correlation between mean retinal thickne temporal to the fovea and the lowet light enitivity within that area. However, central light enitivity in eye with normal central foveal thickne wa lower than in eye with ubnormal central foveal thickne (P = .032); thi wa alo true for the lowet light enitivity found temporal to the fovea (P = .025). Mean viual acuity wa 20/40 and did not how ignificant difference in the two thickne group. Concluion A ubnormal foveal thickne in type 2 IMT may be aociated with better macular function a aeed by microperimetry. It i hypotheized that in type 2 IMT, both a primary neuroenory thinning and a low-grade macular edema can be involved. The coincidence may reult in normal retinal thickne but decreaed retinal function.
