  • Abstract
Purpoe To tudy the correlation of viual acuity and the foveal photoreceptor layer in eye with peritent cytoid macular edema aociated with branch retinal vein occluion (BRVO). Deign Retropective chart review. Method We tudied retropectively the medical record of 42 eye of 42 patient with peritent cytoid macular edema econdary to BRVO, eye in which the foveal thickne wa greater than 250 μm at final examination. On the vertical image obtained by optical coherence tomography at the final examination, we meaured thickne of the foveal photoreceptor layer that wa beneath the foveal cytoid pace. We alo aeed tatu of the junction between inner and outer egment of the photoreceptor (I/O) in the fovea. Reult The photoreceptor layer beneath the foveal cytoid pace wa detected a a ditinct layer with thickne varying between 33 μm and 124 μm (mean, 71.1 ± 26.8 μm). Final viual acuity howed no correlation with total foveal thickne (r = 0.336, P = .092). However, it did how a cloe correlation with thickne of the foveal photoreceptor layer (r = −0.571, P < .0001). Of the 42 eye, 15 howed a continuou I/O line in the fovea. Viual acuity in thee eye with a continuou I/O line in the fovea wa ignificantly better than that in eye with a dicontinuou or interrupted I/O line (P < .0001). Concluion Both the thickne and the integrity of the foveal photoreceptor layer are aociated with viual function in eye with peritent cytoid macular edema aociated with BRVO.
