Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the prevalence and rik factor for viion lo in patient with clinical or immunologic AID without infectiou retiniti.
Deign
A propective, multicenter cohort tudy of patient with AID.
Method
One thouand three hundred and fifty-one patient (2,671 eye) at 19 clinical trial center diagnoed with AID but without major ocular complication of HIV. tandardized meaurement of viual acuity, automated perimetry, and contrat enitivity were analyzed and correlated with meaurement of patient’ health and medical data relating to HIV infection. We evaluated correlation between viion function teting and HIV-related rik factor and medical teting.
Reult
There were ignificant (P < .05) aociation between meaure of decreaing viion function and indice of increaing dieae everity, including Karnofky core and hemoglobin. A ignificant relationhip wa een between low-contrat enitivity and decreaing level of CD4+ T-cell count. Three percent of eye had a viual acuity wore than 20/40 nellen equivalent, which wa ignificantly aociated with a hitory of opportunitic infection and low Karnofky core. When compared with external group with normal viion, 39% of eye had abnormal mean deviation on automated perimetry, 33% had abnormal pattern tandard deviation, and 12% of eye had low contrat enitivity.
Concluion
Thi tudy confirm that viual dyfunction i common in patient with AID but without retiniti. The mot prevalent viual dyfunction i lo of viual field; nearly 40% of patient have ome abnormal viual field. There i an aociation between general dieae everity and le acce to care and viion lo. The pathophyiology of thi viion lo i unknown but i conitent with retinovacular dieae or optic nerve dieae.
