Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate clinical feature and gender difference in human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B27–aociated acute anterior uveiti (AAU) in long-term follow-up. Deign Retropective cohort tudy. Method The clinical record of 177 HLA-B27–poitive patient (96 male [54%] and 81 female [46%]) who ought treatment for acute anterior uveiti (AAU) at the Univerity Medical Center Utrecht between January 1995 and December 2005 were evaluated. All patient had a minimum follow-up of at leat one year. The clinical data were analyzed at tandardized interval (one, five, and 10 year after the onet of uveiti). Reult Average age at onet of AAU wa 36 year, with no difference between male and female. HLA-B27–aociated ytemic dieae developed earlier in male than in female (31 v 37 year; P = .021). Conequently, at onet of AAU, HLA-B27–aociated ytemic dieae were more frequent in male than in female (25/75 [33%] male v nine/54 [17%] female; P = .030); however over time, male and female were at equal rik of developing a HLA-B27–aociated ytemic dieae. Bilateral uveiti developed more frequently in female (6/45 [13%] of male v 11/35, [31%] of female; P = .05). In none of the patient did bilateral viual acuity of le than 0.5 develop after the follow-up of 10 year. Concluion The long-term viual prognoi of HLA-B27–aociated AAU wa favorable, depite the frequent attack of evere AAU. At the onet of AAU, the prevalence of HLA-B27–aociated ytemic dieae wa more frequent in male, but after the onet of uveiti, the rik of developing a HLA-B27–aociated ytemic dieae i imilar for both male and female.
