Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine the prognotic factor aociated with retinal redetachment after 1300-centitoke ilicone oil removal in rhegmatogenou retinal detachment (RD) aociated with grade C proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR).
Deign
Nonrandomized, retropective, comparative interventional trial.
Method
One hundred and forty-even eye with RD and grade C PVR treated with ilicone oil tamponade, with ubequent ilicone oil removal, in an intitutional etting. Main outcome meaure included anatomic ucce, defined a complete retinal attachment after ilicone oil removal, and bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) after ilicone oil removal.
Reult
ilicone oil wa removed after a mean tamponade period of 12.4 ± 9.8 month. The mean follow-up after ilicone oil removal wa 22.1 ± 18.7 month (range, 6.0 to 71.0 month). The retina remained attached in 120 eye after oil removal. The overall anatomic ucce rate wa 81.6% ± 3.2%. Logitic regreion howed that an increaed number of previou unucceful RD urgerie (odd ratio [OR], 0.39; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.19 to 0.80; P = .010) and longer axial length (OR, 0.42; 95% CI, 0.15 to 0.87; P = .032) were aociated with a lower anatomic ucce rate. Previou vitrectomy, previou cleral buckling procedure, 12% perfluoropropane–air exchange immediately after ilicone oil removal, and duration of ilicone oil tamponade were not tatitically aociated with the anatomic ucce rate. Anatomic ucce wa aociated with a ignificantly better BCVA (1.169 ± 0.475 v 1.520 ± 0.381 logarithm of the minimum angle of reolution; P < .001).
Concluion
The number of previou urgerie and axial length, rather than the nature of the previou urgical procedure, were ignificant prognotic factor for anatomic ucce after ilicone oil removal.
