Abstract :
Purpoe To report the reult of intratromal corneal ring egment [ICR] (KeraRing; Mediphaco, Belo Horizonte, Brazil) implantation uing a femtoecond laer (IntraLae Corp, Irvine, California, UA) in keratoconic patient. Deign Retropective, noncomparative, interventional tudy. Method Thirty-two keratoconic patient (50 eye) who underwent ICR inertion uing a femtoecond laer for channel creation and completed at leat one year of follow-up were included in thi tudy. Uncorrected viual acuity (UCVA), bet pectacle-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), refraction, topographic finding, and advere event were aeed. Reult No intraoperative complication were demontrated in thi erie of patient. At the firt potoperative day, egment migration to the inciion ite wa een in three eye (6%; early potoperative complication). To avoid melting, we repoitioned the migrated egment away from the inciion ite. eriou econd migration wa not een and we did not need to repoition any egment again. At the lat potoperative examination, there wa a tatitically ignificant reduction in the pherical equivalent refractive error compared with that oberved at the examination before implantation (mean ± tandard deviation, −5.62 ± 4.15 diopter [D; range, −23.62 to 0.50 D] to −2.49 ± 2.68 D [range, −11.12 to 3.5 D]; P < .001). The UCVA before implantation wa 20/40 or wore in 47 eye (94%; range, counting finger to 20/30), wherea at the lat follow-up examination, 14 (28%) of 50 eye had a UCVA of 20/40 or better (range, counting finger to 20/25). Nine eye (18%) maintained the preimplantation BCVA, wherea 39 eye (68%) experienced a BCVA gain of one to four line at the lat follow-up examination. Only in two eye (4%; two patient) with advanced keratoconu (tage III) wa there a decreae of up to two line. Depite thi deterioration in BCVA, the patient did not want to remove the ICR, becaue there wa an increae of UCVA. No late potoperative complication were oberved during the follow-up period. Concluion ICR (KeraRing) implantation uing femtoecond laer for tunnel creation i a minimally invaive procedure for improving viual acuity (both UCVA and BCVA) in keratoconic patient.
