Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the reult of uturele amniotic membrane (AM) tranplantation uing fibrin glue for recontructing corneal urface with partial limbal tem cell deficiency (LCD).
Deign
Retropective noncomparative interventional cae erie.
Method
Eleven eye of nine patient that had LCD with 120 degree to almot 360 degree of limbal involvement underwent uperficial keratectomy to remove the conjunctivalized pannu followed by AM tranplantation uing fibrin glue. Additional uturele AM patch (ProKera; Bio-Tiue, Inc, Miami, Florida, UA) wa ued in even patient, and mitomycin C wa applied on the cornea in four eye and during fornix recontruction in even eye. The urgery wa repeated in three eye for reidual pannu.
Reult
During a mean follow-up of 14.2 ± 7.7 month (range, ix to 26 month), all eye maintained a mooth and table corneal epithelial urface without recurrent eroion or peritent epithelial defect, and howed le tromal cloudine and vacularization. Bet-corrected viual acuity improved in nine eye (81.8%). Corneal epithelialization proceeded by epithelial growth over AM (n = 4), accompanied by diolution of AM (n = 4) or a combination of both (n = 3). No complication wa noted regarding initial or repeated ue of fibrin glue.
Concluion
AM tranplantation uing fibrin glue appear to be a afe and effective method of retoring a table corneal epithelium for cae with partial LCD. Thi approach avoid the need of tranplanting limbal epithelial tem cell.
