Abstract :
Purpoe
To validate the Ectaia Rik core ytem for identifying patient at high rik for developing ectaia after laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK).
Deign
Retropective cae-control tudy.
Method
Fifty eye that developed ectaia and 50 control eye with normal potoperative coure after LAIK were analyzed and compared uing the previouly decribed Ectaia Rik core ytem, which aign point in a weighted fahion to the following variable: topographic pattern, predicted reidual tromal bed (RB) thickne, age, preoperative corneal thickne (CT), and manifet refraction pherical equivalent (MRE).
Reult
In thi erie, 46 (92%) eye with ectaia were correctly claified a being at high rik for the development of ectaia, while three (6%) control were incorrectly claified a being at high rik for ectaia (P < 1 × 10−10). ignificantly more eye were claified a high rik by the ectaia rik core than by traditional creening parameter relying on abnormal topography or RB thickne le than 250 μ (92% v 50%; P < .00001). There wa no difference in the enitivity or pecificity of the Ectaia Rik core ytem in the population from which it wa derived and thi independent population of ectaia cae and control.
Concluion
The Ectaia Rik core ytem i a valid and effective method for detecting eye at rik for ectaia after LAIK and repreent a ignificant improvement over previouly utilized creening trategie.
