Abstract :
Purpoe
To decribe the clinical preentation of cytomegaloviru (CMV) anterior uveiti in human immunodeficiency viru (HIV)-negative patient.
Deign
Retropective, interventional cae erie.
Method
HIV-negative patient with anterior uveiti aociated with elevated intraocular preure (hypertenive anterior uveiti) een at the ingapore National Eye Centre had their aqueou analyzed for viral deoxyribonucleic acid by polymerae chain reaction, and their record were reviewed for demographic data, ocular finding, laboratory reult, and treatment.
Reult
Aqueou wa obtained from 105 of 106 eligible eye. Twenty-four eye demontrated poitive reult for CMV (22.8%). Eighteen eye had Poner-chloman yndrome (P; 75%) at preentation, five eyeba had Fuch heterochromic iridocycliti (FHI; 20.8%), and one eye had a preumed herpetic anterior uveiti. Twelve of the 24 eye were treated with ganciclovir. Of the 12 who completed treatment, all reponded clinically, and their aqueou demontrated negative reult for CMV on repeat teting. However, nine had recurrence within eight month of topping treatment and required further coure of ganciclovir. The 81 CMV-negative eye included 30 with P, 11 with FHI, 27 with uveitic glaucoma of unknown caue, and 13 with preumed herpetic anterior uveiti.
Concluion
CMV anterior uveiti i not uncommon in our immunocompetent patient and it may preent a a recurrent acute or chronic inflammation, reembling P, herpetic anterior uveiti, or FHI.
