Dome-haped Macula in Eye with Myopic Poterior taphyloma Original Reearch Article

Purpoe To decribe an unuual feature in myopic eye reponible for viual lo, which we call a dome-haped macula. Deign Retropective, obervational cae erie. Method After oberving iolated cae of dome-haped macula, we analyzed optical coherence tomography (OCT) can of 140 highly myopic eye preent in our OCT databae to find imilar cae. Fifteen eye of 10 patient had a dome-haped macula. Thee patient all had undergone fluorecein angiography (FA), indocyanine green angiography (ICGA), and B-can ultraonography examination. Reult The mean refractive error of the affected eye wa −8.25 diopter (D; range, −2 to −15 D). Median viual acuity wa 20/50. Recent viual impairment wa noted in 11 of the 15 eye tudied, and metamorphopia wa noted in eight eye. Four eye were aymptomatic. FA howed atrophic change in the macular retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in all eye, combined with focal point of leakage in even of the 15 eye. The dome-haped appearance of the macula wa viible on both B-can ultraonography and OCT: a characteritic bulge of the macular retina, RPE, and choroid within the concavity of the moderate poterior taphyloma wa preent in all eye. In 10 eye, OCT alo howed a hallow foveal detachment at the top of the dome-haped macula. Concluion A dome-haped macula within a myopic taphyloma i an unreported type of myopic poterior taphyloma. The dome-haped macula often i aociated with RPE atrophic change and foveal retinal detachment, which may explain the viual impairment in thee eye.
