Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the early potoperative change in ciliary body after par plana vitrectomy (PPV) for retinal vacular dieae and to determine whether intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA) affect potvitrectomy change of the ciliary body.
Deign
Propective interventional cae-control tudy.
Method
We recruited 46 patient who underwent uncomplicated PPV for retinal vacular dieae (35 with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and 11 with branch retinal vein occluion) and divided the patient into two group according to the ue of IVTA at the end of the PPV. The morphologic change of the anterior egment were meaured by ultraound biomicrocopy (UBM) one day before and one day, two day, three day, five day, two week, one month, and two month after the PPV. The main outcome meaure were the thickne and area of the ciliary body, the frequency of upraciliary effuion (E), angle-opening, and anterior chamber depth (ACD). We compared the UBM parameter between the two group.
Reult
The thickne and area of the ciliary body ignificantly increaed from day 1 to day 5 potoperatively. Nineteen of 46 eye had E that were frequently aociated with divergent alteration of potoperative intraocular preure (IOP). The angle-opening and ACD were ignificantly decreaed and dependent upon the finding of ciliary body thickne and E. The degree of the morphologic change of the ciliary body and the frequency of E were ignificantly lower and of horter duration in the IVTA group compared to the non-IVTA group.
Concluion
The PPV for retinal vacular dieae induce the morphologic change of the ciliary body aociated with potoperative abnormalitie in IOP during the early potoperative period. Adminitration of IVTA at the end of the PPV effectively reduce or horten the duration of the potvitrectomy change of the ciliary body.
