Abstract :
Purpoe To invetigate the relationhip between morphologic and functional abnormalitie in patient affected with adult-onet foveomacular vitelliform macular dytrophy (AFVD). Deign Propective, noncomparative obervational tudy. Method A complete ophthalmologic examination, including bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), fundu examination, fundu-related perimetry, and optical coherence tomography (OCT), wa performed in 20 conecutive AFVD patient. The tage of the dieae and the thickne of the neuroepithelium at the foveola (neuroenory retina) were compared with the BCVA a well a with the type of cotoma, the average retinal enitivity, and the location and tability of fixation. Reult Thirty-five eye of 20 conecutive patient (10 men and 10 women; mean age, 58.2 year) were graded a follow: 10 had vitelliform tage (tage 1), nine had peudohypopyon tage (tage 2), 10 had vitelliruptive (tage 3), and ix had atrophic tage (tage 4) dieae. Reduced thickne of the neuroepithelium at the foveola and BCVA were tatitically correlated to an advanced tage of the dieae (P = .001 and P = .0062, repectively). Moreover, wore BCVA wa correlated tatitically to reduced thickne of the neuroepithelium at the foveola (r = 0.14; P = .02). Reduced thickne of the neuroepithelium at the foveola wa correlated tatitically to the development of abolute cotoma (P = .03), eccentric fixation (P = .01), and untable fixation (P = .03). Concluion OCT and fundu-related perimetry allow a correlation to be defined between foveal thickne and viual function and are ueful tool to define better the degree of anatomic and functional impairment in AFVD patient.
