Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate feature of optical coherence tomography (OCT) aociated with haken Baby yndrome (B) in an attempt to gain new inight into the pathophyiology of thi phenomenon.
Deign
Intitutional propective obervational cae erie.
Method
We report three infant with B. Each patient underwent an ophthalmic examination including lit-lamp biomicrocopy, dilated indirect ophthalmocopy, color fundu photography, and OCT.
Reult
In all infant, numerou bilateral multilayered retinal hemorrhage were preent. In one cae, bilateral perimacular fold had occurred. OCT confirmed retinal hemorrhage and perimacular fold. Moreover, OCT revealed vitreoretinal traction in all infant and upected hemorrhagic macular retinochii in one cae. Baed on OCT finding, a hypothei of vitreoretinal traction development and retinal fold formation i propoed.
Concluion
OCT provided valuable additional information about the ocular pathology in patient with B. Vitreoretinal membrane formation een in OCT could upport the pathophyiological theory of a direct mechanical effect. OCT revealed preretinal blood accumulation a a caue for localized vitreou detachment and vitreoretinal traction. Furthermore, OCT howed peritent attachment of the vitreou to the internal limiting membrane at the apice of perimacular fold and uggeted mall hemorrhagic macular retinochii in one patient. Perimacular fold and hemorrhagic macular retinochii are regarded a highly pecific for B and indicate poor viual outcome. Thu OCT might be of both diagnotic and prognotic value in B.
