Abstract :
Purpoe To clarify the progreion of zone I retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and elucidate the mot uitable time and method of treatment. Deign Interventional cae erie. Method Forty-ix eye of 23 zone I ROP infant were tudied at a ingle intitution. Birth weight ranged from 448 to 954 g, and getational age ranged from 22 to 26 week. Fundu examination wa tarted at 29 or 30 week potmentrual age and wa performed once or more per week. The firt treatment wa performed uing laer photocoagulation or cryotherapy when zone I ROP progreed to the following criteria. Treatment criteria A included 35 eye of 18 cae of zone I any tage ROP with plu dieae (Early Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity [ETROP] type 1), criteria B included five eye of three cae of zone I tage 3 ROP with or without plu dieae (ETROP type 1), criteria C included ix eye of four cae of tage 1 or tage 2 ROP without plu dieae; the demarcation line belonged, in large part, within the zone I area. Reult Hazy media uch a corneal opacity, miotic pupil, tunica vaculoa lenti, and hazy vitreou perited until approximately 32 week potmentrual age. The mean period between tage 1 and tage 3 mild wa one week, that between tage 1 and tage 3 moderate wa 1.7 week, and that between tage 1 and tage 3 evere wa 1.3 week. The period between tage 1 and the firt treatment wa zero to 20 day, and 60.9% of all the cae were treated within 10 day after tage 1. ix of 46 eye had unfavorable outcome. urgical reult of our treatment were comparable or better than thoe of other report. Concluion Immediate treatment wa required when zone I ROP wa diagnoed behind peritent hazy media.
