Abstract :
Purpoe
To decribe the clinical finding and urgical reult of uperior oblique paly with cla III tendon anomaly.
Deign
Obervational cae erie.
Method
One hundred and forty-one cae of congenital and idiopathic uperior oblique paly were operated on by one urgeon (M..) between eptember 1, 1995 and Augut 31, 2007. The uperior oblique tendon were explored in 26 cae. Among thee, five cae were found to have the dital end of the tendon inerted into the Tenon capule. Preoperative eye alignment, viual acuity, tereopi meaured with Titmu tereo acuity tet (tereo Fly O-001; tereo Optical Co, Chicago, Illinoi, UA), and magnetic reonance imaging finding were collected from the patientʹ record. Main outcome meaure included preoperative eye poition, urgical reult, and tereocopic acuity. tereopi and the amount of vertical deviation were compared in cae with cla I, II, and IV tendon anomalie.
Reult
A total of eight urgerie were performed on five patient with cla III uperior oblique tendon anomaly. Three mucle were operated on for each patient. The amount of vertical deviation wa not ignificantly different from other type of tendon anomaly. Patient with cla I to III tendon anomalie obtained good tereopi after trabimu urgery, wherea cae with cla IV anomaly achieved only limited tereopi. The number of urgerie performed wa ignificantly higher in cae with cla IV anomaly.
Concluion
Without careful earch of the Tenon capule, the condition can be midiagnoed a an abent tendon. trengthening the uperior oblique tendon in the Tenon capule can improve the alignment ignificantly.
