Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate early change in the central retinal repone in human immunodeficiency viru (HIV)-poitive patient without infectiou retiniti uing multifocal electroretinography (mfERG).
Deign
Cae control tudy.
Method
We evaluated three cohort: HIV-negative control and two group of HIV-poitive patient eparated according to their nadir CD4 count (≥ 100 cell/mm3 and < 100 cell/mm3 for a minimum of ix month). mfERG firt-order kernel (FOK) and econd-order kernel (OK) were analyzed eparately by area of ring, quadrant, and individual hexagon for each cohort.
Reult
Of 103 hexagon location of FOK reult, there were no ignificant difference in amplitude of P1 and N1 acro the group (.05 < P < .50), although there wa a trend for an overall reduction in the amplitude. imilarly, latency N1 did not differ (.28 < P < .95). There were ignificantly delayed latencie of P1 between cohort acro 103 hexagon in both kernel. OK reult alo howed ignificant delay in latencie of P1 and a trend of reduced P1 amplitude acro tudied location among cohort (.24 < P < .08).
Concluion
The reult demontrate widepread delay in latency in HIV-poitive patient, epecially in thoe with prolonged low (below 100 cell/mm3) CD4 nadir count. Thee finding ugget early diffue dyfunction of the inner retina reult from evere HIV dieae even in the HAART era.
