Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate long-term afety and bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) reult of a telecope prothei in patient with end-tage age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Deign Propective, open-label clinical trial with fellow-eye control. Method Patient with end-tage AMD (bilateral geographic atrophy or diciform car; BCVA, 20/80 to 20/800) received the telecope prothei at 28 center. Method were imilar to thoe decribed in the one-year reult, with follow-up viit continuing at 18 and 24 month. Main outcome meaure included BCVA change from baeline, endothelial cell denity (ECD) and morphometry, and incidence of complication. Reult At two year, data from 174 (92.6%) of 188 available patient were analyzed. Overall, 103 (59.5%) of 173 telecope-implanted eye gained three line or more (doubling of viual angle) of BCVA compared with 18 (10.3%) of 174 fellow control eye (P < .0001). Mean BCVA improved 3.6 line (tandard deviation [D], 1.9 line) and 2.8 line (D, 2.3 line) from baeline in eye with the 3X and 2.2X device model, repectively. Mean ECD tabilized through two year, with 2.4% mean cell lo occurring from one to two year. There wa no ignificant change in coefficient of variation or percentage of hexagonal endothelial cell from within ix month to two year after urgery. The mot common complication wa inflammatory depoit. Concluion Long-term reult of thi telecope prothei how the ubtantial BCVA improvement at one year i maintained at two year. Key indicator of corneal health demontrate ECD change that reflect remodeling of the endothelium aociated with the implantation procedure. ECD tabilize over time, and there i no evidence of any ongoing endothelial trauma.
