An anionic silver(I) column containing a novel asymmetric double cage with embedded acetylenediide and unprecedented mu5ligation of the nitrate ion

The new triple salt (PhCH2NMe3)4[Ag17(C2)2(CF3CO2)16(NO3)(H2O)4](1) features an asymmetric silver(I) double cage constructed from the edgesharing of a triangulated dodecahedron and a monocapped square antiprism, and an anionic columnar structure is generated with an unprecedented mu5-ligation mode of the nitrate ion.
