  • Abstract
The original position paper on this issue was developed by the APIC 1992 Governmental Affairs Committee and published in AJIC: American Journal of Infection Control (1993;21:76–8). The 1997 and 1998 APIC Guidelines Committees have revised this paper with new information pertinent to the prevention of occupationally acquired infections in health care providers. The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc (APIC), is a multidisciplinary, voluntary, international organization of professionals who practice infection control and the application of epidemiology in all health settings. As an international leader in prevention and control of infections, APIC supports efforts to reduce and eliminate device-mediated bloodborne infections
