Abstract :
The aim of this study was focused to compare the effects of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors in synchronized and proliferative mesangial cell (MC)-DNA synthesis by measuring BrdU uptake.
Synchronized (Sy) (24h in 0.55 serum-supplemented medium) and proliferative (Pr) (24h in 10% serum-supplemented medium) MCs were exposed to 20% and 10% serum respectively to induce mitogenesis. Diferent doses of Pravastatin (P) (10−3, 10−6 and 10−9M) were added. Results are shown in the table included:
We conclude that when MCs are growing in proliferative conditions higher doses of HMG-CoA reductasa inhibitors are nedeed to reduce DNA-synthesis.
