Abstract
At present, as a part of Intelligent Transport System (ITS), many applications in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) attract a lot of research attention from academic community and industry, especially car industry. One important feature of the applications in VANETs is the ability to extend the line-of-sight of the drivers by the extensive use of on-board devices in order to improve the safety and efficiency of road traffic. However, due to mobility constraints and driver behaviors in VANETs, the broadcasting approaches used in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) cannot be properly applied to the applications in VANETs. Moreover, the conventional broadcasting methods for broadcasting an alarm message have a defect of long time required for the complete dissemination, which leads to the degradation in the safety of road traffic in case of emergency. This paper proposes a new broadcasting method called Cut-Through Rebroadcasting (CTR) for alarm message dissemination scenarios based on the minimization of the number of rebroadcasting vehicles and the overlap rebroadcasting by making use of multiple-channels.
