Abstract
This study was conducted during a period from November 2007 to October 2008 in Jebel reservoir (45 km south Khartoum city). The study concentrated on two genera of the Family Characidae. These were Hydrocynus ( H. forskalii( Cuv.1849) , H. lineatus( BLR.,1826) and H. brevis (Gunth.1864) ) and Alestes (A. baremoze (Joann.1835), A. dentex ( Linn.1757) and A. nurse ( Rupp.,1832). The size of first maturity of characids fish showed that the standard length of males is longer than female’s. More than 50% both males and females matured by the end of the second year. Data on the incidence of mature characids indicates that many species are fractional spawnners and the breeding season extends over a long period of time. However, seasonality of breeding was evident coincided with the flood and the rainy season,
