Abstract :
ABSTRACT: Eleven locations scattered over 21 provinces in Iran area were surveyed to assess the ecogeographical distribution of wild Gladiolus species. seventeen morphological traits were measured on the collected species and population to study the phenotypic diversities among and within species. Based on mean and standard deviation values, the highest variations were recorded for Plant height, Spike Length, No. of Inflorescence, Corm Length (cm), Corm Diameter (cm), Corm Weight (g), Corm Shape, Number of Cormel, Flower Length (cm), are the main descriptors that can be used to differentiate among Gladiolus species. The Mashhad G. atroviolaceus had the most differences from quality and quantity characters with the species the results of correlation analysis showed that plant height, Length of spike, flower diameter and number of floret per spike correlated significantly to each other Factors analysis applied in explanation of characteristics and showed that the first factor describe plant height (52.7), length of spike (11.1), diameter of corm (1.53), and second factor were (length of floret(4cm) Flower diameters(1.9), number of floret per plant(11.1). The results showed that Gladiolus species belonging the same species are grouped in the same clusters regardless of collection site. In addition to the conservation of collected accessions, it is recommended to promote also the insitu conservation of Gladiolus species.
