Abstract :
The path coefficient analysis provides information on internal relation among the investigated characteristics, as well as their effect on certain traits. Path coefficient analysis was carried out in 10 genotypes of sorghum bicolor, between yield and yield related characters for each cut and subjected to pooled analysis. The result showed that biological yield, was positively correlated with grain yield (P < 0.01) and obtained high amount of correlation coefficient. Furthermore, lowest significant and positive correlation was observed between plant height and grain yield. Among evaluated traits, the values of the correlation coefficient with grain yield were ordered as biological yield > grain number per panicle > harvest index > plant height with 0.760, 0.749, 0.623 and 0.333, respectively. In this study, we used path analysis to study the genetic effects of 14 main indices on grain yield production, in order to identify higher grain yield. Results indicate breeders should select varieties with high grain number per panicle and biological yield. Thus, these traits seem likely to be found in sorghum genotypes material adapted to north of Iran breeding in future programs and can be used in future breeding program.
