Abstract :
Realizing that many admitted students with high University Matriculation Examination scores performed well below expectations in the university examinations, the University of Lagos proposed a follow-up test which is a further screening of prospective students who have written the University Matriculation Examination (UME). This test is known as the Post-University Matriculation Examination (PUME). Afterwards, there had been ongoing debate on the existence of association between the two examinations and the suitability of the examinations to measure the required ability needed for standard admission process. This study investigates the relationship between UME and PUME and set approximate confidence intervals using several competing methods. Empirical results findings suggest no relationship between these examinations for all candidatesʹ scores. Moreover, the method based on the bootstrap resampling techniques provided a robust coverage and better confidence length than its competitors.
