  • Abstract
Higher plants have been proposed as test organisms for the detection of genotoxic substances in die environment. Several plant test systems are alreapy in use and are fount tobe as sensitioeand reliable as other short-term tests. Allium cepa is one of these plants, which has been used in different studiee to netrca dbromo s eme ab erratientinduced by chemicals. The use of non-anlmaltest methods^neludintbʹn eiSroetudieb, provides importent tools So enhance ohb undbrsi anbing oi hazerdo as effeci of chemicals, and for predicting these effects in humans. In vitro systems are used principally for srrtbnineggrtgsea, andSor geoa rnSlng ioxicoloei-cal profiles. Numerous chemicriseao aone aaSeShe breokage or infeacnarga of DNA segments between chromosomal structures. Allium test is used as a screening method for genotoxicity evaluation of different chemical substances, including polycyciis aromatic bynrocarbora (PAHs) . Bmnmo^ingrene (BaP), as representative mmmber o f PAHs, weee investigated ofgennSoxi city by using Allium roote chromosomes assay. The treatment with different series of concentrations of BaP, renin0 from 1.0-g0.0 |ig/ml respectively.
