Abstract :
The oil and gas industry is a multi-million dollar industry, which operates both onshore and offshore. The industry is one of the largest high cost industries that require high cost of maintenance and projects. It is also one of the highest paying industries in the market. However, less is known about its compliance to the Project Management Triangle (PMT) concept and their focus. This research has investigated the extent of the application of the PMT in Miri, Sarawak for project success. The aim of this research is to critically identify and evaluate the depth of the PMT concept applied in the execution of projects tendered by the oil and gas companies to relevant contractors to ensure project success. The objectives are to identify the focus of the oil and gas companies and the contractors on the focus and constraint they are prone to satisfy. It also identifies the critical dimension of cost, time, and scope equals to quality in the PMT. Lastly, is to identify the source of the oil and gas companies and the contractorsʹ concern regarding the projects tendered. The five point Likert scale was used to measure the value of the instruments. Only 60% out of the intended 400 respondents could be used for data analysis. The analysis was done using SPSS Ver. 17. The ʹindependent T-testʹ was used to identify the significant and insignificant factor in the projects success. Quality is identified as the most important consideration for project success to oil and gas companies in Miri, Sarawak.
