  • Abstract
The effect of some chemicals on postharvest longevity and microorganisms in solution of Dianthus caryophyllus cv. Liberty evaluated in a randomized complete design (CRD) with three replications in the laboratory of post-harvest physiology at Arak Scientific-Applied University, to increase the vase life and reduce the losses of Dianthus caryophyllus cv.Liberty. Treatments included Humic acid (200, 400, 600 ppm), Thyme oil (100, 150, 200 ppm), Salicylic acid (200, 400, 600 ppm), calcium Chloride (500, 1000, 1500 ppm), Aloe vera gel (2.5, 5, 7.5 %) and Silver thiosulphate (0.5, 1, 1.5 mM). A 5% sucrose solution was added to all the treatments. There was also a control treatment of flowers that were placed in distilled water containers. Results showed that treatments had a significant effect on traits such as Relative Water Content (RWC), flower life duration, flower diameter, leaf quality and solution absorbtion at %1 and flower quality and ion leakage percentage at %5. The Longest vase life was achieved by Silver thiosulphate, calcium Chloride, Salicylic acid and Thyme oil treatments. The Shortest vase life was related to Humic acid treatments.
