Root Yield and Quality Traits of Sugar Beet (Beta vulgaris L.) in Relation to Nitrogen Fertilizer and Plant Density in Isfahan Region

ABSTRACT: In order to evaluation of root yield and quality traits of Sugar Beet in relation to nitrogen fertilizer and plant density in Isfahan region, an experiment was conducted in 2009-2010 in a research farm of farming building of Sugar Factory located in Mourcheh khort city (latitude 33o /60ʹ N and Longitude 29o /51ʹ E). A split plot layout within randomized complete block design with 3 replications was used. Main plot were different level of nitrogen fertilizer (0 for control, 50,100 and 150 kg ha-1) from urea source, and sub plot were different plant density including: 8, 10 and 12 plants per m2. Condition represented the effects of nitrogen treatment was significant on root yield only and the highest of root yield was achieved in 100kgN ha-1 but had no significantly different from 150kgN ha-1 treatment. Plant density had significant influence on root yield and white sugar yield, and the highest of them was achieved in 12 plants per m2. Interaction of nitrogen and density was significant on root yield only. On the basis of the results obtained, the fertilizer treatment 100 kg N ha-1 and 12 plants per m2 might be suitable for Sugar beet productive under the condition similar to the present study.
