Abstract :
The aim of this research is to study the secretion of beta-endorphin in heroin addicts by aerobic exercise on a treadmill. Current research was done on two groups of people 1) heroin addicted men and 2) non-addicted people who had no background of drug use, with ages about twenty to thirty years old. In order to measure the level of beta-endorphin, after aerobic exercise blood samples were taken in two stages before and after thirty minutes walking on treadmill which was in fixed slope condition with initial speed of 4 km/hour which gradually increased to 6km/hour. The intensity of exercise was set within 50-65% of maximum heart rate. For statistical analysis of the obtained data, dependent and independent t-tests with statistical significance P < 0.05 were used. The results didnʹt show a meaningful change in the mean level of beta-endorphin in the two groups before and after exercise. The mean level of beta-endorphin in group of addicts was P < 0.127 before exercise and P < 0.194 after exercise which was generally lower than that of the non-addicted group but after exercise with the intensity and duration there was a meaningful change in level of beta-endorphin before P=0.76 and after P=0.48 exercise and no meaningful difference in each group were obtained. According to the results of our study, 30 minutes physical exercise on treadmill with the speed and slope used in this research is not enough to increase the level of B –endorphinin addicted men
