Abstract :
Synthesis of N-ethoxyphthalimide derivatized 3-{[7-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)]pyrido[2,3-
d]pyrimidin-4-yl}-2-substituted-imidazolidin-4-one (7a-e) are described. 2-Amino-6-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-4-(4-
methoxyphenyl)pyridine-3-carbonitrile (2) was prepared by the condensation of chalcone (1) with malononitrile, which on
cyclization with formamide yielded 7-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-amine (3). Schiff
bases (4a-e) were obtained by the reaction of (3) with various aromatic aldehydes. These were converted to corresponding
pyridopyrimidinylimidazolidinone derivatives (5a-e) by treating with glycine. Finally the targeted molecules (7a-e) were
obtained by the base induced condensation of (5a-e) with bromoethoxyphthalimide (6). Structure confirmation was
accomplished by spectral studies (IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR, Mass) and elemental analysis of all the synthesized compounds.
