Malonic acid as a catalyst for efficient and simple synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones in green solvent

A efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of 2-substituted 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)- ones using 10 mol% malonic acid as a catalyst. It was prepared via condensation of 2-aminobenzamide with aldehydes or ketones in water and ethanol (1:1) at room temperature. The reaction proceeded in a short period of time with excellent yields.
