Abstract :
Platinum compounds are widely used in cancer treatment despite of being highly toxic in nature. These platinum compounds share some structural similarities. However, there are marked differences between them in their therapeutic use, pharmacokinetics and adverse effect profiles. Pertaining to toxicity, both nephrotoxicity and myelotoxicity are the most significant side effect which limits the usefulness of these compounds. This efficacy-toxicity dilemma has hampered the real improvement of platinum drugs for many years.
